Silver is known for high reflectivity in visible and near-infrared range. Materials like dielectric mirrors can achieve even higher reflectivity only for a narrow range of wavelengths. Solar sails, materials like aluminized Kapton or aluminized Mylar are used for high reflectivity and ability to withstand space conditions. Radiation pressure is the force exerted by electromagnetic radiation on a surface due to the transfer of momentum from photons. This pressure is most significant when radiation is reflected, as the momentum of the photons is reversed, leading to a greater force on the reflective surface. Silver: Highly reflective in the visible and near-infrared range. Dielectric mirrors: Can reflect 99.99% of light in a narrow range. Aluminized Kapton/Mylar: Used in solar sails due to their reflectivity and strength in space conditions.
